From May 19th to 20th, in Vientiane, Hue University’s delegation including heads of HU offices and member colleges attended the Forum on International Integration in Education and Training and the 1st Vietnam higher education exhibition in Laos. This is one of the activities realizing the strategy of Vietnam’s international integration in education.
On May 19th, at the forum, Laos’ and Vietnam’s universities shared experience in international integration, achievements and concerns in the field of education and training and to further promote the special friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
Speaking at the forum, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Vang, Director General of International Cooperation Department – Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) informed that in addition to bilateral cooperation programs at governmental level, Vietnam MOET has been always cooperated with Laos Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) to participate in cooperative programs within the framework of Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization SEAMEO, sub-regional cooperation frameworks such as CLV, CLMV, ACMECS, etc. Both nations have always welcomed and advocated new cooperation in the field of education and training. Staff training to be qualified for and capable of international integration is greatly important in economic development of each country.
On May 20th, at Laos PDR’s National Conference Center, Hue University and 36 other universities, colleges and schools of Vietnamese language attended the Vietnam higher education exhibition. Attending the opening ceremony were Mr. Kongsy Sengmany, Deputy Minister of Laos Education and Sports; Mr. Nguyen Xuan Vang, Director General of International Cooperation Department under Vietnam MOET; Representatives of Embassy of Vietnam in Laos; and Representatives of 37 universities from Vietnam and some colleges of Laos.
The exhibition aimed to inform Laos universities and students and their parents of information about Vietnam’s universities and training programs. Hue University’s booth attracted numerous students, teachers and parents. Hue University’s member colleges had a busy day introducing their training programs, facilities, learning opportunities, etc. Especially, Hue University offered many full and partial scholarships such as tuition waive, free lodging, etc. for Laos students.
HU officially admitted Laos students since the academic year of 2002 – 2003. Up to now, more than 400 graduated and went back Laos to work while some came back for master and PhD degrees.
At the exhibition, Mr. Kongsy Sengmany, Deputy Minister of Laos Education and Sports stated that the exhibition was a useful event for Laos students. Students were provided lots of information on Vietnam higher education so that they would be able to make the best choices of training programs and universities. Moreover, this event would promote the ties and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, Vietnamese and Laotian in general, between Vietnam MOET and Laos MoES in particular.
